AKFS Joins the Vehicle Builders & Repairers Association (VBRA)

AKFS is pleased to announce that we have joined the Vehicle Builders & Repairers Association (VBRA), reinforcing our ongoing commitment to quality, compliance, and best practice within the specialist commercial vehicle sector.

For more than 30 years, AKFS has supplied specialist vehicles to operators across the UK. Our focus has always been on delivering robust, reliable conversions that are fit for purpose in real working environments. VBRA membership formally aligns our business with the leading trade body dedicated specifically to commercial vehicle bodybuilders and repairers.

Raising standards in the commercial vehicle sector

The VBRA, established in 1914 and now operating as a specialist division of the National Body Repair Association, represents businesses working at the highest level of commercial vehicle engineering and repair.

Its role within the industry is centred on promoting consistent operating standards, technical competence, and customer protection. Members follow a Chartered Trading Standards Institute approved Code of Practice, ensuring transparent and ethical business behaviour.

The association focuses exclusively on heavy vehicle repairers and commercial bodybuilders, covering sectors from trucks and light commercial vehicles to wheelchair accessible vehicles and specialist conversions. In 2022, the VBRA introduced the Elite Truck & Van Body Repair Standard, a fully audited framework designed to improve structural repair quality and safety across the commercial vehicle market.

What this means for our customers

VBRA membership represents a commitment to accountability, technical guidance, and continuous improvement.

For AKFS customers, this provides additional confidence that every vehicle is built in line with recognised sector standards and supported by a business operating within a structured professional framework.

Andrew Hawkyard, Managing Director at AKFS, commented:

“As a specialist commercial vehicle manufacturer, AKFS recognises the importance of industry collaboration. Our VBRA membership reinforces our pledge to delivering dependable, robust, and innovative specialist LCV and minibus conversions while strengthening partnerships across the sector.”

This aligns directly with our Built Without Compromise ethos. Our goal remains unchanged: to supply vehicles that perform reliably in demanding environments and support the long-term needs of the operators who depend on them.
